On the quiet end of the high street, sits the former site of the kimono merchant “Takechuu,” which thrived in this castle town in the early Showa era. It has been transformed into a calm, whole-house rental inn. Inside, over 100 years of history can be felt throughout the interior. Outside, enjoy the stone-paved courtyard, and the bath area repurposed from a traditional storehouse with namako-style plaster walls. The rich weight of the architecture is matched by a soothing atmosphere. The first-floor dining room is the perfect place to enjoy the rich culinary heritage of Tamba-Sasayama. Local residents serve as hosts, working to welcome you to the vibrancy of our town.
From the second-floor bedroom window, you can see the storehouse standing quietly in the courtyard. Its charming presence makes you forget the noise of the town. The adjacent Japanese-style room features exposed ceiling beams, creating a cozy, low-ceiling space like a secret lair. The bedroom walls are finished with handmade washi paper from Izumo and harmonize beautifully with furniture crafted by woodworker Yukifumi Matsumoto. By adding futons to the Japanese-style room, the inn can accommodate up to five guests. The room is also equipped with a washbasin and shower.
Open the entrance door made with reused traditional fittings and glass, and you’ll be welcomed by soft light streaming in from the skylight and a nostalgic hearth kitchen, preserving the charm of the past. The open view leading all the way to the living room in the back creates a sense of spaciousness. As a one-group-only inn, you can enjoy a relaxed and special time in complete privacy.
The garden visible from the room was designed by Tsuchiya Sakuteisho of Nara. The trees, with their subtle and natural beauty, create an atmosphere of quiet elegance. Enjoy the unpretentious grace of the greenery, and indulge in the rare travel luxury of doing nothing at all.
The traditional storehouse in the courtyard has been transformed into a spacious bathhouse. The bathtub is luxuriously made from Towada stone. With its original earthen walls and wooden beams preserved, the space is carefully designed to provide relaxation and comfort after your travels. Indulge in a uniquely extraordinary atmosphere that offers the open-air feeling of a rotemburo (outdoor bath) ― an experience available only here.
